Ramblings about Istanbul!

Image
I am not the best travel blogger it would seem. I am loving the adventures that I am on but finding time to share stories along the way is proving to be difficult. Any bloggers with tips out there please share! haha. Here is a bit though on my adventures through Istanbul, five days in this super cool city was not enough. I will definitely have to come back someday.  The Blue Mosque On the completion of my Greek adventure, the more personal travel portion of my excursion began. First stop being Istanbul, you hear Istanbul in the news a lot lately often in an unfavourable light thanks to the attempted coup and some bombings that have occurred in the city in past year. So to start I will say this, never at any point did I feel even remotely unsafe. It was a beautiful city with beautiful people an absolute delight to experience from beginning to end. Thanks so much to Danny and Alycia for having me you guys are the greatest. I arrived late in the evening on the 1st and ...

4 shifts left!!!! **tear**

I am finally taking a second to write and I cannot believe that I only have 4 shifts left! 😩  That seems so unbelievably crazy to me. Its been a full few weeks and gotten to the point where in many ways I feel like this place is a part of me. The work is exhausting both physically and emotionally but the people and the community that comes with it are equally beautiful and fulfilling.  Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece In most of my travels it's the dichotomy of the situations I get myself into that often impact me the most and Greece has been no exception. I believe that too often Regina gets a bad rap. So often it is criticized for its appearance. BUt anyone who has looked out over the city from Douglas Park Hill. This is my favourite spot of the entire city. From the top of the hill you can basically look out over the entire city. For a time I got up everyday and went to the top of it and pray. Prayers for our city, for our people, for our University, for our arts, and our sciences, for our government and for our businesses because representations of each can seen from here.

Farewell Plains Hotel! - PHOTOS

Well friends the Plains is gone. An icon of Regina history is now a pile of rubble. Many Reginians have had their lives impacted in some form or another by this place. When I first started discussing the fact that it was being demolished I was tweeted by a friends Dad, who had the his first date with his now wife many many years ago in the establishment. For many others, (myself included) there were hazy Wednesday nights at Good Time Charlies singing Karaoke in a packed smokey bar. This demolition is not necessarily a bad thing though. In fact, I would call it a good thing. Too often we hold on too tightly to our past. We tend to stagnate and do things because thats what we have always done and not because we are inspired to do them and are part of achieving an ultimate goal. But just like without winter you dont get spring, without destruction you cannot have construction. We all need to be shaken up from time to time. Areas of our lives n...
